The 2011 Festival will be held in Manhattan, September 20-24.
The New York Television Festival was launched in 2005 as the industry’s first creative festival for television artists. A pioneer of the “independent television” movement, the NYTVF strives to construct a new and innovative platform for program development. While inspired by the independent film movement, the goals of this television festival are quite different. Where a film festival showcases completed works of art, the NYTVF exists as a year-round development incubator, providing independent artists will multiple opportunities to create, share and showcase their best and most promising ideas.
The Festival’s Independent Pilot Competition and subsequent sponsored development initiatives, with partners including FOX, A&E, IFC, FX, MTV, Sony Pictures Television, Bing, Sundance Channel and MSN, have allowed selected artists to progress and succeed – not based merely on their individual projects but on their ideas, relationships and connections fostered by the NYTVF experience. Many Festival alumni are now in working relationships with networks, studios, and top agencies, and all have benefited from the expert advice gleaned from the talented, experienced and award-winning producers, writers, directors, and executives that have shared their experiences at the annual Festival.
The Festival: An Annual Celebration in NYC Each year, all of the NYTVF’s development initiatives culminate at the New York Television Festival – held in New York City each September. The week-long celebration features screenings of the best independently-produced content, panels and talkbacks with industry thought leaders and creative luminaries and red-carpet premieres of the stars and creatives behind the seasons’ most anticipated new network and cable shows.
