Shipments of Web-enabled consumer devices to more than triple by 2013

Worldwide shipments of Internet-enabled consumer electronics devices will soar over the next couple of year to exceed those of PCs for the first time in 2013, according to a new report from IHS.

These devices include a wide range of products, from televisions to video game consoles, and set-top boxes to tablets, although the research firm excludes PCs and smartphones from its projections, preferring instead to include them in the respective categories of data processing and wireless communications equipment. Tablets are however included in the category of Internet-enabled CE devices due to the “key role” they play in the connected home.
