I know I'm a broken record but there's a method to my madness.
The question is this...
With the steady improvement in DSLR technology like the Canon 5D and 7D, how much value is there in shooting RED? If the ultimate end user is at a TV or computer, do 4K images make that much of a difference? We're hearing yes and no. Would love to hear the discussion here as well

Personally I don't feel much urge to shoot either method for the web.

DSLR is a workaround system. It's NOT designed for video production. Getting better, but still too limited in too many ways. Main advantages are DoF and price, but you sacrifice a lot for that.

RED is great, but the file sizes are huge (btw, you don't HAVE to shoot 4k, can shoot 2k and double your storage and bandwidth while still shooting at almost twice the resolution of 1080).

Give me a good mid-market dedicated video camera like a Sony PMW-EX1 or Panny HVX/HPX and we're good. Everything I need in a manageable work flow.

Save DSLR for stills and maybe DoF tricks. Save the RED for something that's gonna be blown up for projection. There are so many good options for video cameras with professional feature-sets under $10k that you can avoid the fad cameras.
